i heard you're teaching yourself to float
it's going better than you'd hoped
but like an anchor on a line, you resign to rise and fall
lifted, unallowed to have it all
you say you hover in your place
but you cannot shift your weight
if you lean you start to roll then the earth takes control
you find that you no longer levitate
you just skip
like a rock
that's been carelessly tossed to a stream
and when you stop
you say you feel you've found a meaning you lost in the ground
and now i stare
crossed legs, you hang in the air
so i open my mouth and close it slowly
open my mouth and gape at the view
posture as a statue's, vertebrae aligned
you say "hey, you've got a silence i can listen to
so would it be weird
if you worked
on making those lips disappear?"
i say "no, less it weren't for all those years i obsessed over words
and in this state i won't claim to be more than my traits
